The emphasis on sustainability is crucial, especially as AI's power consumption grows. I wonder if lighter models and efficient architectures will be enough to offset the increasing demand for generative AI across all media. Could we be seeing a trade-off between capability and environmental cost?

In reply to <a href="https://aiartblog.com/generative-ai/generative-ai-trends-in-2024/#comment-8402">Guest</a>.

Thank you for this good question. I think that some big companies like Google, OpenAI and Anthropic tries to handle this situation in different ways: they are improving their models to be more efficient, some of them are investing in renewable energy.

I also think it's a good direction that professional AI tools are not free. This can limit the endless usage of them.

As average users, we can do a lot to lower the energy demand just by using the lighter models for easier tasks, installing and running LLMs on our own computer and/or using AI only if we really need it.

I personally don't like to use it for creating funny, but useless images or videos or AI slop. Youtube also tries to limit the sharing of AI slop on the channels.

You can also save energy if you are using generative AI for prototyping and making the details with a traditional Non-AI tool. This also allows you the joy of creation of which genAI takes away a lot.
